Cyber Security Threat Analyst (Mid-Level)

Title: Cyber Security Threat Analyst (Mid-Level)

FLSA Classification: Salaried/Exempt
Salary Grade: TBD
Travel: up to 10% of time

Purpose: Neovera is seeking a seasoned, mid-level threat cyber security threat analyst to perform threat intelligence client services, research, security automation, and mentoring of SOC Analysts in our MSSP business.  The mid-level threat analyst will report directly to the senior threat analyst but will be matrixed into and coordinate with the Vice President of Cyber Security Services on a frequent basis.

The mid-level threat analyst will triage and analyze security alerts and events from Neovera’s MSSP platform with other SOC Analysts and engineers. You will be responsible for analyzing, identifying, and eliminating customer security alerts. 
You will require good analytical skills, good communication skills (written and verbal), and highly technical skills. In addition, we are looking for a mid-level threat analyst to work on automating our SecOps processes and procedures.  Examples of ongoing automation tasks you will perform are listed below.

  • Writing security alert rules for our SIEM and logging tools
  • Building Integration with our SIEM tools, 3rd security tools, and service management tools to streamline the incident to resolution process and remediation processes
  • Build Sentinel Workbooks, Playbooks & Logic Apps

The mid-level threat analyst will also perform Neovera global threat research and coordination with other threat exchange labs around the globe to continue to build the threat intelligence, correlation directives, into our Cyber Security solution.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide first and second level technical resolution for security alerts and SOC service requests in coordination with SOC Analysts
  • Engage with clients around our SOC services and Cyber Security Monitoring solution
  • Continuously look to streamline and reduce costs via improving processes and security automation
  • Mentor SOC Analyst team members
  • Continuous Global Threat research to add intelligence and correlation directives to our Cyber Security SIEM solution
  • Work with our Cyber Security partners on integrating their feeds/logs into our systems, especially our partner threat intelligence exchange
  • Log and record all alerts with integrated ticketing
  • Identify weaknesses in customer infrastructures and suggest improvements
  • Technical and analytical skills to handle security incidents and threats
  • Resolve or escalate incidents
  • Provide timely and reliable service to customers
  • Inform himself about the latest vulnerabilities, exploits, and other threat information
  • Operation of the Security Monitoring and ticketing systems platform
  • Integrate customer environments
  • Mentor and train customers using and operating the client portal portions of the security Monitoring and ticketing system platform
  • Document solutions, processes, or procedures and present in a written document, verbally on the phone, or in-person

Qualifications:

  • 5-7 years of information security experience
  • 2+ years of experience doing IT Security automation with scripting and/or programming languages
  • 24×7 SOC experience working with or for an MSSP is highly desirable
  • Security experience with Microsoft Azure environments and security tools such as Microsoft Sentinel, Security Center, Defender
  • Experience with Microsoft Azure automation tools such as Sentinel Playbooks, logic apps
  • Experience with Microsoft Kusto Query Language (KQL)
  • Programming/shell scripting experience highly desirable (Powershell, Python, Java, shell scripts, etc.)
  • Experience as a System and/or Network Administrator a plus
  • Knowledge of configuring and implementing technical security solutions (Firewalls, NIDS, HIDS, OSSEC, SIEM, Antivirus, Antispam, etc.)
  • Curiosity and a strong desire to constantly learn
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Cyber Security, or equivalent demonstrated experience and knowledge.
  • Solid understanding of the application, operating system, and networking security
  • Requirement for on-call work and working in a 24x7x365 environment
  • TCP/IP protocols such as SMTP, HTTP, POP3, IMAP
  • Command-line interfaces
  • Linux user and administrator experience a plus
  • Keen ability to troubleshoot technical and security problems

As with any SOC operational work, these jobs are part of a 24x7x365 day operational Security Operation Center (SOC) team with multiple shifts throughout the day and night. This specific position is a Monday thru Friday daytime position.

Technical Operations Analyst

Title: Technical Operations Analyst
Division: Network Operations Center

Purpose: Under the direction of the Manager, Technology Operations, the Technology Operations Analyst provides first-line surveillance and incident management support in our 24x7x365 Data Center located in Ashburn, VA. Ability to work a flexible schedule in a shift environment including nights, weekends and holidays is a must. The specific shift for this position is Saturday 8pm to Sunday 8am, Sunday 8pm to Monday 8am, Monday 8pm to Tuesday 8am, and Tuesday 8pm to Wednesday 2am. This position consists of working both On-site at our data center in Ashburn VA and remotely from home.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide first-line surveillance and incident management support
  • Act as a front-line interface to our customers through effective oral and written communication over the phone, emails and through our ticketing system
  • Communicate issues and incidents to all levels of the organization as required
  • Perform initial hardware/software problem analysis, identification, and troubleshooting
  • Work closely with engineering groups to identify, resolve, or coordinate the resolution of System and Network issues
  • Use of monitoring tools to effectively monitor our IT infrastructure
  • Use of trouble ticketing system for tracking, prioritization, and escalation of both new and existing issues
  • Follow up with engineering teams on open issues to keep tickets up to date
  • Monitor our enterprise backup system, identify key backup failures, and manually restart failed backups
  • Perform daily data center walk-throughs to visually inspect physical devices for alert lights or anomalies

Qualifications:

  • Ability to work a flexible schedule in a 24x7x365 shift environment including nights, weekends, and holidays is a must!
  • Programming / shell scripting experience a plus (PERL, Python, Java, shell scripts, )
  • Any Technical certifications a plus (A+, Network+, Security+, Azure)
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and oral

Windows and Azure Engineer

Title: Windows and Azure Engineer
Division: Technology Infrastructure
Status: Full-time
Location: Remote, HQ in Northern VA
Reports to: Sr. Technical Manager
FLSA Classification: Salaried/Exempt

Travel: less 10% of time

Purpose: To join a team responsible for the administration of multiple Windows server environments running on VMware and Microsoft Azure. This position will also help maintain Azure AD and Office 365 productivity solutions for multiple clients.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Act as a subject matter expert and Tier II/III support for NOC/JSOC support team
  • Manage Active Directory and email; maintain best practice configurations; provide recommendations on system improvements; and assist in the transition to Office 365
  • Implement efficiencies through automation
  • Deploy, maintain, and troubleshoot traditional Windows Servers and cloud services, as well as integrating various products and devices
  • Deploy and maintain systems and services in Azure including virtual servers running on IaaS, integrated Enterprise services using PaaS and SaaS
  • Manage a Microsoft domain environment, including AD, DNS, DHCP, GPOs, DFS, ADFS, LAPS and Windows 2012, 2016, 2019 servers
  • Deploy enterprise-wide, multi-site server-system patching
  • Act as the lead administrator for various systems as needed by a variety of customers
  • Serve as a subject matter expert for Windows 10 and Office deployment solutions
  • Monitor server performance and troubleshoot problem areas as needed
  • Work closely with other Neovera engineers of other disciplines for escalation support
  • Work with external vendors and partners to assist in troubleshooting systems as necessary
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • Excellent oral and communication skills (some client-facing calls/sessions)
  • 5 years of relevant work experience managing a Microsoft Domain, Windows Servers, Exchange, VMware, and other mission critical enterprise level systems
  • Experience working with Cloud technologies and SaaS solutions, especially Azure
  • Candidate must be a quick learner with exceptional communications and customer service skills
  • A proactive mind-set with a focus on constant improvement and follow through at all levels
  • Strong technical problem-solving skills
  • In-depth knowledge of Microsoft’s suite of products
  • Ability to take ownership of issues, work independently or escalate as needed, and find creative ways to resolve problems
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to clearly, and concisely present complicated computer concepts to end-users with differing skill levels

Other desired knowledge, skills or attributes:

  • Experience with Symantec Endpoint Protection, Nagios Monitoring, JIRA ticketing systems a plus
  • Microsoft, VMware and Cloud Certifications a plus
  • Scripting in PowerShell a plus
  • Experience in working with or for a MSSP
  • Curiosity and strong desire to constantly learn
  • A self-starter with the ability to work in a fast paced and ever-changing environment
